Christopher Hareesh Wallis was introduced to Indian spirituality at the age of six and initiated into the practice of meditation and yoga at sixteen. His degrees include a B.A. in Religion from the University of Rochester, an M.A. in Sanskrit from U.C. Berkeley, and an M.Phil. in Classical Indian Religions from the University of Oxford. He also pursued graduate work at U.C. Santa Barbara, and completed his Ph.D. at U.C. Berkeley on the traditions of Tantrik Shaivism. He received traditional education at yoga āshrams in upstate New York and India in meditation, kirtan, mantra-science, asana, karma-yoga, and more. He currently teaches meditation, yoga darshana (philosophy), Sanskrit, chanting, and offers spiritual counseling.
Hareesh is the Founder and Head Faculty of The Mattamayura Institute. His teachers, mentors, and gurus, in chronological order, include: Swami Muktananda; Gurumayi Chidvilāsānanda (diksha-guru and mula-guru), Paul Muller-Ortega (Shaiva Tantra and Classical Yoga); Douglas Brooks (Shakta Tantra); Alexis Sanderson (Shaiva and Shakta Tantra and Sanskrit); Marshall Rosenberg (Nonviolent Communication); Somadeva Vasudeva (Shaiva Tantra), Dharmabhodi Sarasvati (Tantrik Yoga); and Adyashanti (Meditation). Hareesh is author of Tantra Illuminated: The Philosophy, History, and Practice of a Timeless Tradition.

Cristina Star Ryan has practiced yoga and meditation for over 20 years, shamanism for 13, and integrates the practices into every facet of life. She works full time for the vision of MMI with heart centered passion to facilitate its events, organization, and growth. She holds a degree in Physics from UC Berkeley, and left a PhD program in 2009 to pursue the path of self-actualization full time, which led her to help launch MMI with Hareesh in 2010. She also partners with Hareesh to offer the highly regarded immersion program and 40 day challenge, has taught yoga asana and meditation, and encourages students to connect with what is most authentic to them in the moment to moment truth that is always available, and move through the world from there. Her teachers include fierce grace, Adyashanti, Chief Tsunka Wakan Sapa, and all the faulty of Mattamayura.
Ekabhumi Charles Ellik is an eloquent, inspiring, and thorough teacher who utilizes sacred art practices to help students cultivate deeper intuitive states, so they may sense and create the sacred in daily life. He holds a BA in Fine Arts with an emphasis on Figurative Art, has taught Yoga since 2005, and currently works full time as a sacred Artist and teacher. He is a regular student of Nepalese master painter, Dinesh Charan Shrestha, learning traditional Newar style of Tankha and Paubha painting and has studied Yantra and the painting of Devas in the lineage of Harish Johari in India. Ekabhumi’s poems and artworks have appeared in several publications, shows and private collections, illustrating Tantra Illuminated by Christopher Hareesh Wallis (2011), Awakening Shakti (2012) by Sally Kempton, and author of The Shakti Coloring Book: Goddesses, Mandalas, and the Power of Sacred Geometry with Sounds True Publishing (2015). Alejandra Siroka speaks 5 languages, finished two master’s programs in Argentina as both an English/Spanish Public Translator and Teacher of the English Language. It was through the exploration of communication as a spiritual practice through Marshall Rosenberg’s Non-Violent /Compassionate Communication that she earned a third master’s degree in Transformative Leadership from the California Institute of Integral Studies. Alejandra has studied Tantrik Buddhism in the Ddzogchen tradition with Lama Surya Das and Chandra Easton, Tantrik Shaivism with Christopher Hareesh Wallis, and the non-dual teachings of Adyashanti. She has been a student of Hatha yoga for 14 years with her main teachers Scott Blossom and Saul David Raye. In 2011 Alejandra founded Language Alchemy, through which she facilitates interactive workshops on connected communication to raise awareness about communication patterns and the impact these patterns have on ourselves and others. To her, developing conscious facility with language is a spiritual practice – it is learning the language of the heart. Her teachings constitute our Awakened Communication program.
Mark Morford has been teaching a fluid, fiery style of Vinyasa yoga for over 12 years, much that at Yoga Tree in San Francisco, and studying Shaiva Tantra as a student of Hareesh’s since before Mattamayura was born. To Mark, Yoga is a multifaceted, transformative, sometimes difficult, always fascinating mix of energies and attitudes. His classes are an athletic and challenging blend of focused breath and strength building movement designed to invigorate the body, soothe the urban mind, and bring the student more fully into the present moment to discover a deeper, more profound notion of Self. Mark is also a social critic and columnist for the SF Gate and has won many awards for his equally fiery and invigorating writing.
Sianna Sherman has passionately taught yoga for more than 20 years. She is known for her spirited and soulful teaching and storytelling, which ignites devotion worldwide. Her degrees in biology and nutrition, along with years as a bodyworker and capacity to touch the human heart through story, ritual, and devotional practice, converge into a unique blend of scientist, mystic, artist and yogini. Her dedication since 1990 to hatha-based traditions and to the lineages of Tantra influence her multifaceted approach of alignment-infused vinyasa interwoven with yoga anatomy, therapeutics, mythology, mantra, meditation, and the power of the practices for everyday transformation. Sianna is committed to helping practitioners and teachers ignite the alchemy of yoga for a lifetime of sustainable practice and transformation.
Scott Blossom is a Traditional Chinese Medical practitioner, Shadow Yoga teacher, and Ayurvedic Consultant. He has been studying yoga for over nineteen years and teaching for thirteen. He offers profound insights into the nature of the human experience with yoga, health, and prana through a highly accessible direct teaching style. His primary teachers are Zhander Remete, founder of Shadow Yoga, and Dr. Robert Svoboda, renowned Ayurvedic physician and scholar. His 14 years of clinical experience have laid a foundation for the therapies and practices that he shares on DoctorBlossom.com, a site dedicated to Ayurvedic education, nutrition, and treatments. He offers powerfully healing and integrative medical care and Shadow Yoga courses in the Bay Area.
A kirtan musician for the past twelve years, Adam Bauer played bass with Krishna Das from 2001 to 2008, and with Shyamdas from 2005 until his untimely passing in 2013. He has performed at hundreds of gatherings over the years, sharing stages with Ram Dass, Jai Uttal, Deva Premal and Radhanath Swami, and many others. Now accompanying himself on harmonium singing his own original kirtan compositions, Adam has led kirtan at world-class venues like Omega Institute, BhaktiFest, and the Wanderlust Festival as well as more humble gatherings in Canada, India and across the US. Adam attended a Mattamayura Retreat in 2012 and then traveled to India with Hareesh and Cristina in 2013. He regularly travels through the Bay Area and offers his deep and nurturing song to the Mattamayura community.
Over the past 12 years Mark Haviland has been developing a synthesis of modalities and techniques into an eclectic emergent bodywork style that is truly transformational. Specializing in eradicating emotional holdings in the body and freeing his clients from the lack/victim construct held in the body/mind, a session with Mark is akin to an archaeological expedition searching for the relic of your preciousness. Mark partners with MMI offering the necessary somatic and integrative elements for the in-depth retreat and immersion programs.
Ryan Seaman has over seventeen years of quality training in the healing arts, and offers transformative bodywork sessions which seamlessly incorporate techniques from multiple modalities. Reading each person’s current somatic holdings, he facilitates their integration to harmonize mind, body and soul. Some of the techniques include deep tissue, Swedish, Shiatsu, Thai, Ayurvedic, acupressure, craniosacral, Qi Gong, reflexology, and Acutonics. Ryan partners with MMI offering the necessary somatic and integrative elements for the in-depth retreat programs.
James Girard’s bodywork integrates elements from several traditions, including Swedish, Thai, shiatsu, deep tissue, and myo-fascial release, and also draws upon his hours in chiropractic study and a degree in Psychology. The goal in the session is to find the right balance that will offer you therapeutic and restorative relaxation. By unlocking areas of both physical and emotional trauma, we allow the body to heal and transform itself, restoring the body to its natural, joyful, pain-free balance. James partners with MMI offering the necessary somatic and integrative elements for the in-depth retreat programs.
Christine Mason creates new ventures, connects people, researches and writes, consults and speaks on social media, startup life, sustainability and human potential. She has been studying yoga, spiritual development, and consciousness since 1999, with multiple well known teachers, and continues to teach as E-RYT 500 locally. She is a founding committee member of TEDxSF, and has worked with TED since 2004. Christine is a dedicated student in MMI courses and offers her voice as a facilitator and Moderator in Walk the Talk events. She is also a talented photographer present at many MMI events.
The Mattamayura Community is an ever changing group of seekers from many walks of life, brought together by inquiry into our deeper nature as energy. We come together through different events to study, practice, and forge connections that help each other along the path, for our benefit and the benefit of all beings.
